Mexico wants more N.Z. trade

PA Wellington A team of nine Mexican business representatives went to the Department of Trade and Industry yesterday to seek a way past licences for imports" from Mexico. . The commercial mission arrived at Wellington on Sunday and will stay until Thursday when they go on to Australia. They will meet New Zealand members of the Mexico-New Zealand Business Council today. One of the mission’s members. Mr Ronald Ivory, said trade opportunities depended on the licensing system.

"There will be negotiations between the New Zealand Government and Mexican Government trade officials to open up licences for Mexican products." he said. Mr Ivory, an Australian who has lived in Mexico for five years, gave the example of his company's Mexican wedding dresses which are exported to Europe and Australia, but are blocked in New Zealand. His company’ imports New Zealand seed, planting, and electric fencing equipment. The Mexicans will also meet New Zealand importers.
