Department of Labour ad..
Sir,—Mr M. J. Bourke’s criticism of the employment advertisement appears somewhat contradictory from a recent offer made by his colleagues. In “The Press” (September 5) “M.P.s offer refused” — Messrs Caygill, Kirk. Moore, Palmer and Mrs Hercus said that the Labour Department lacked accommodation for urgently needed unemployment centres. I consider Mr Bourke’s statement quite surprising. Maybe there is no unemployment on the West Coast and if there is, the member has not become aware of it in the short time he has lived there. When Mr Bourke says that employment advertisements are a gross misuse of public funds, I disagree with him. Surely employment advertisements Would use less public funds and encourage individual independence ior the job seeker.— Yours, etc.. P. ELLIOTT. October 30, 1981.
