Miss E. H. Smith
Miss Elizabeth Hogg Smith, who spent much of her life serving other people, died recently, aged 82. Miss Smith often worked during her own time as supervisor of the Mayor’s social service committee in Christchurch. She had earlier been a rescue worker with the Salvation Army in Wellington, and was sent to Napier at the timejjf thq 1931 earthquake relief worker.
She worked as a Samaritan in Christchurch before being appointed supervisor of the Mayor’s social service committee, a position she held for 24 years, until her retirement. Miss Smith also served on several welfare committees including Langford House. She was a jobmaster for the women’s section of Toe. H. She was made a Justice of the Peace in 1948.
