Cyllarus much too good in main Addington race

By

G. K. YULE

Cyllarus gave further evidence of his front-running qualities when he outclassed his rivals in the Mazda Handicap at Addington Raceway last evening.

Cyllarus did not begin quite as smartly as usual and it took 800 m before Neville Benny could work him to the front from Royal Decision. He set a fairly strong pace in the middle stages and

sprinted his last 800 m in 59.65. At no stage of the final 100 m did he look like being put to the test and he won by a length and a half. Trained at Bumham by Allan Millow, who races him in partnership with his brother, Ron, Cyllarus is a five-year-old stallion by Adover Rainbow from Virtue. He will probably race next in the Canterbury free-for-all on New Zealand Cup day.

Royal Decision came on well from a handy position for second, ahead of Lincmac, which had his chance. Quiet Win battled into fourth, ahead of False Regal, which raced in the open for most of the way. The favourite. Armalight, was a shade slow out from 20m. She attempted to make up ground over the last 600 m, but was forced very wide. She did quite well to finish eighth.
