Boulder Creek gains overdue first win

The highly-rated three-year-old, Boulder Creek, runner-up to Hilarious Guest in the Sapling Stakes last winter, broke through for his first success in the F. R. Brebner Stakes at Addington Raceway last evening.

The son of Lumber Dream and Paula Jane has been entered for important three-year-old events in the next few weeks and his win will go some way towards starts in them.

Richard Brosnan gave Boulder Creek a splendid run and he drew away from the pacemaker, Rapid Lustre, which was cut out of second by the fast-finishing Kaydee. Scholar, off the winning list for almost 12 months, received the run of the race in the October Stakes and

gained a decisive, win over Ribbonwood Prince and Virginia City after pacing the 2000 m in an extremely fast 2min 29.85, a mile rate ■of 2min 0.55.

The Curtin brothers, Roddy and Jim, gained wins behind Duplex Hanover and Regal Glow, both at odds of more than 7/1. Duplex Hanover gave Roddy Curtin his first winning drive in the D. C. Parker Stakes, a race in which he led almost from end to end. In a tight finish he beat Brockworth Globe by half a neck, with Gladivana doing well for third after being three wide for. almost the whole race.

Regal Glow was almost last starting the last 400 m in the November Stakes. She took time to reach top speed,

but came strongly to win by half a neck from Watbro Lord. Acco came on quite well for third, ahead of Scotch Cloud.

Ginger Creek capped off some consistent racing with an overdue win in the L. S. Smart Stakes. Eddie Cowie had Ginger Creek handily placed and he had too much in reserve for Travel King and Arsenal. The favourite, Icenic, finished sixth, but was not disgraced. Twinkle qualified to. start in intermediate races at the Cup meeting when she got up to beat Jenover by a neck in the I. J. Wilson Handicap. They were the only two vitally involved in the finish, being five lengths clear of Little John and Proudfoot.
