Mogal holds back suspension notices

PA Auckland . The Mogal Corporation has withheld suspension notices for its striking storemen

pending a stop-work meeting of the freight-forwarding industry in Auckland today. The secretary of the Auckland Storemen and Packers’ Union, Mr M. C. Jackson, will put to members proposals hammered out during a four-hour meeting between company and union officials yesterday. The fate of the striking storemen will depend on their response Earlier, Mogal seemed certain to go ahead with plans to dismiss 60 workers and close the Southdown freight-forwarding depot. Mogal told its Southdown employees on Monday that it would close the depot unless a strike by. storemen there and at other Mogal depots in Auckland- was settled within 48' hours.

One Auckland depot, Hamilton Freight,., returned to work. yesterday.

This was believed to be part of the reason for Mogal withholding the suspension notices for the rest of the striking storemen. The storemen are on strike as a result of a break-down

in their award talks. When that happened, the union decided to negotiate agreements with individual freight-forwarding companies rather than on an industry basis. •
