Linkspan in use

The roll-on linkspan at Lyttelton’s Gladstone Pier seacargo terminal which was damaged last week when struck by the Coastal Trader was back in use yesterday morning, relieving the need for use of the old ferry terminal span. A Lyttelton Harbour Board spokesman said that repairs had proceeded smoothly on the damaged span and that the structure had been metallurgically checked

First use of the repaired span was by the Coastal Trader which, with the Union Hobart, had been forced to use the ferry terminal span which had been idle since the demise of the inter-island ferry Rangatira.
