Koiro Trelay for U.S. soon

NZPA Melbourne The New Zealand trainer. Eric Temperton, will say farewell to his Melbourne Cup hope, Koiro Trelay soon. The grey's owner. Mr David Canning of California, plans a campaign for the horse in the United States next year.

Temperton aged 57, will view Koiro Trelay’s departure with mixed feelings. “He is a top stayer. I believe he is as good, maybe better than Silver Knight, which won the Melbourne Cup for me in 1971,” he said. However Temperton confided that Koiro Trelay has caused him plenty of problems along the way to wins in the New Zealand and Wellington Cups. “He has only started to

settle down a little lately. He can be a real handful.”, the Palmerston North trainer said.

Koiro Trelay will have his first Australian start in the W.S. Cox Plate. 2050 m, at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

It will be his first clash with Kingston Town on the way to the $310,000 Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 3.

Koiro Trelay caused momentary concern yesterday when he returned from his work-out at Moonee Valley bleeding from a cut near the base of the heel on his near forehoof.

The wound was only superficial, and Eric Temperton said that Cox Plate plans were unchanged.
