Caning experiment
Sir.—l don't believe it. Surely he must be an aberration, ’ this headmaster who video-tapes the caning of boys in the name of scientific experiment (“The Press," October 16). He should be thanked for making us think about the outdated practice of caning. How revealing his concern that “teachers have missed the target and boys have been left with embarrassing marks below the level of a bathing suit.” In other words, don’t worry if it left a mark just worry if the mark shows. Perhaps these boys will learn the lesson and hit their wives where it doesn't show and girls will learn that to be hit is still acceptable in our society —Yours, etc., . JO ’WYNNE. October 16. 1981.
