Cricketer fields falling child

NZPA-Reuter Sheffield A former cricketer, Lawrence Honson, made his most important catch yesterday when a toddler fell 10 metres from an apartment window in Sheffield. Mr Honson, aged 26, said he was on his way to his local pub when he spotted Stephen Bamforth, aged two, crawling along a window ledge outside his parents’ flat. Seconds later the child lost his grip. Mr Honson dived for

Stephen and managed to catch hold of the child’s ankle with one hand, neighbours said. “It certainly was the catch of my life.” Mr Honson said. “He would have been a goner.” Mr Honson, an unemployed glass-cutter who lives in a nearby block of flats, said: ‘1 used to be a keen amateur cricketer. I was a fast bowler and always a good catcher, and perhaps that helped.”
