Travel editor to attend world congress
Two New Zealand journalists will attend the fifty-first World Trave] Congress in Honolulu this week as guests of the New York-based American Society of Travel Agents. ' Tony Glanville. editor of the monthly trade magazine. "Travel Digest," and Les Bloxham, travel editor of ‘■The Press." were invited by A.S.T.A. after being nominated by the New Zealand Tourist-and Publicity Department? The keynote speaker at the convention will be a former president of the United States, Mr Gerald Ford. . Other addresses will be presented by leaders of the aviation, tourism, and hotel industries. Educational ■ Seminars covering a wide grange of travel themes have .also' been arranged. ■/■ -The convention, which will ■Ae attended by more than • 7000 .delegates, is. the biggest the world. nised the importance of the event by .officially proclaiming the week the "American Society of Travel Agents' Week.", One of the hostesses at the convention will be the Oscarwinning actress, Joan Fontaine. who starred in 45 films including "Rebecca." "Suspicion," "Island in the Sun." and "September Affair." A panel of senior editors of "Time" magazine will assess the world, economy and forecast possible'effects is could have on international' tourism. ‘ The week has been so highly organised that delegates will receive their own daily newspaper, the “Congress Daily," which will include not only convention news but international.national. business, and sports news from the "New York Times” and the "Wall Street Journal." A special television channel, “ASTAvision." will also transmit during the Congress.' ■ '
