‘The way he would have chosen
PA Tauranga A veteran golfer, Niels Christensen, died on Thursday while playing on the Waihi golf course on the eve of his eighty-fourth birthday. More than 100 golfers were at the course to play in the annual Niels Christensen birthday tournament when Mr Christensen collapsed and died on the third green. The club’s president. Ken Salt, said: “It was just the
way Niels would have chosen to go ... out there on the golf course, with his friends around him. playing in his own tournament.
“We knew he would have liked us all to have gone on and finished the round. But we couldn't. We called it all off and went home.” For the last 10 years golfers and friends have turned out to celebrate Mr Christensen’s birthday.
