Kaitoa aimed at N.Z. Cup
Special correspondent Palmerston North Kaitoa and Maire Claire took time honours at Woodville yesterday morning. They will be ready to shine when they resume in the near future. Fast work took place on the inside grass, which was cutting out. Kaitoa and Maire Claire went from the 1000 m in lmin 3.75, the last 600 m in 38.95. This was good work. Kaitoa is being aimed at the New Zealand Cup, along with stablemate Payco. He is likely to resume at the Marton meeting. Marie Claire, which won three of her six
races as a two-year-old, has come back looking well. Her trainer Scott Hammersley had intended racing her in the Gold Trail Stakes, but it now seems likely she will contest a minor event at Hastings before the Lowland Stakes. Anticipate and Shamrock ran 1000 m in lmin 5.45, the last 600 m in 38.45. Shamrock is looking strong at present. Manchu, already a winner twice this season, ran an easy 600 m. Shawnee took 38.15, for a similar task. Orchidra was under a strong hold when she ran 600 m in 395. She is looking very strong.
