Aramoana questions

Parliamentary reporter

About $163,000 of net foreign exchange will be produced by each worker at the Aramoana aluminium smelter each year, the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) told Parliament yesterday in answer to an oral question.

Mr Muldoon said the figure was based on net foreign exchange earnings estimates by the consortium of $155 million a year in 1981 dollars, and a total permanent work-force of 950. Net foreign exchange from a carpet factory per worker would be about $36,000. Net foreign exchange earned by farmers would not reach $163,000 a year, Mr Muldoon said.
