Three nominations have been received for the vacant seat of Cashmere riding representative on the Heathcote County Concil. Nominations closed yesterday. The by-election will be on September 10. Only one of the nominees, Mr James Somers, stood in the elections last year, where he was the highest polled unsuccessful candidate.

Mr Somers was described as a company director, of Hackthorne Road. The other two nominees are Frederick Robert Chapman, a retired farmer, of Purau Terrace,' and Richard Leicester Gill,of Dyers Pass Road, a businessman. The vacancy arose when Cr J. Richardson retired on July 30.
