Nissan leads C.K.D.

1980 has again seen the Nissan Motor Company of Japan head the list of exporters of automobiles in •'completely knocked down” (C.K.D.) form. Nissan's exports of 135,684 cars, 47,608 commercial vehicles and 530 buses, totalling 183,822 units, accounted for 42 per cent of the total C.K.D. automobile exports from Japan.

Nissan was the pioneer of C.K.D. assembly of Japanese vehicles in New Zealand and still leads the world in C.K.D. technology. During last year their nearest rivals in the export stakes were Toyota with 87,910 units, Mitsubishi at 76,716 and Mazda at 74,120 units. Honda, whose only main C.K.D. market is New Zealand, exported only 7000

units, according to figures supplied by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers’ Assn. The association has also advised that a total of 64,493 motor vehicles were exported from Japan to New Zealand during last year, being only 1.1 per cent of Japan’s total exports of almost six million vehicles a year.
