Consolidation by Quill Humphreys
When the directors of Quill Humphreys have completed the integration of the two companies, and have decided on the future course of action over the company’s properties, they will actively pursue further expansion of the company, not necessarily confined to the wine and spirit area. The chairman (Mr C. W. Sturge) told shareholders at the annual meeting that the directors could not make any decisions about the properties until they were certain that the two “flagship
brands” — Jim Beam, and Bacardi Rum — could be transferred to the merged company. ■ . The approvals were only gained recently, with the Bacardi agreement only signed two days ago. The position is that the warehouses at all properties are full; the Dundas Street property is being used as a Bond Store for both companies, and is also housing the transport side of the business. The directors say that they
cannot dispose of any property without needing other warehousing facilities. “We could not dispose of either property at present without other warehousing facilities, and this is complicated further by the fact that we wish to retain the drivein facilities at Dundas Street, Bealey Avenue, and of course at Cellar Ghost, Colombo Street South. Your directors are making haste slowly on all these moves,” Mr Sturge said..
