A rather battered Vulcan rail-car, shown in Moorhouse Avenue, caused heads to turn as it made its final journey by road, from the Ensors Road railway yard to Christchurch Airport yesterday. Used on the West Coast run for many years, the rail-car has been stripped of all moving gear and made its trip ignominiously on the back of an articulated truck. It will serve as a smoke room for fire-fighting practice at the airport, replacing an old aeroplane fuselage.
