Williamson to lead Canty golf team
John Williamson has been given the honour of captaining Canterbury from the top position when the provincial 16-man team meets Mid-South Canterbury in their annual golf match at the Brandon course. Ashburton, on August 16. The Christchurch player, who was a semi-finalist in the NewZealand amateur championship in Timaru last April, has been given his chance ahead .of the present Canterbury match-play champion. Jim Lapsley, and two former Canterbury No. Is. Geoff Saunders and Simon Robinson.
The Canterbury team is exceptionally strong, nine players having represented the province in the Freyberg tournament. Golfers of the calibre of Ricky Vincent and Des Turner, who was runner-up in the Canterbury championship, are no higher'than tenth and eleventh, respectively. The team in playing order is: J.
