Notable squash win
Joanne Milne can look forward to a trip to Canada in October with the New Zealand side after her victory over Jenny Webster in the national squash championships in Auckland on Monday. Both players were vrying for the fourth spot in the team to go to the world championships and Miss Milne's 9-5, 9-5, 9-1 victory should guarantee her a place in the team. Only in the second set when she frittered away points did Miss Milne look vulnerable, but tight boasts and drops helped her gain the ascendancy. Canterbury’s Rod Hayes, however. extinguished his remote chance of making the men's side when he lost to Bruce Brownlee, 2-9, 0-9, 2-9. It was not that Hayes played poorly but the sharpness and speed of the Rotorua professional was formidable. -
Brownlee cruised through the early rounds but on Monday the throttle was wide open. The 40minute encounter was played at a hectic tempo with Brownlee's volleys to a length and retrieving being' the highlight.
