New Brighton wins relay

The late entry of Don Greig into the New Brighton A team strengthened its hold on the senior men's section of the Lionel Fox Memorial Relays run at Woodend Beach Domain on Saturday.

The New Brighton team of Peter Renner. Don Greig. Neil Lowsley. and Dave Roberts won the four by skm men's section in a time of 82:19. Greig taking the place of Robert Hubert, who had to withdraw.

Renner was the first runner home after the first lap, completing it in the fastest time of the day — 20:11. He was followed by Bruce Rattray, third fastest on the day, and Dave Fleming, lead-off men for the Christchurch A and B teams respectively. The team placings remained unchanged fbr the remainder of the race, with members of the New Brighton A team taking fastest time in four of the first five placings. The decision by University of Canterbury not to enter late a

strong women’s A team, left the way for New Brighton A team to take the title. Robin Miles, the lead-off runner for Olympic, took fastest time of 12:22 for the four by 3km relay. ' New Brighton was not at full strength either, because Sue Bruce was running for New Zealand at the Australian Secondary School Cross-Country Championships in Tasmania.
