Three people killed
PA Palmerston North Three people are dead and two are in the intensive care unit of Palmerston North Hospital after two separate road accidents in Palmerston North on Saturday evening. A man died when the utility in which he was a passenger hit a parked truck in Botanical Road about 11 p.m. He was Richard John Gerrard Lawlor,’ aged 46, of Palmerston North. A woman passenger in the utility, Elsie Marie Donnelly, aged 42, of Palmerston North, is in the intensive care unit of Palmerston
North Hospital with extensive head injuries. In another accident, two young women died when two cars collided on State highway 56 between Longburn and Palmerston North. One of the women was Barbara Joan Stewart, aged 24, a school teacher, of Palmerston North. A 19-year-old woman passenger in the second car, whose name had not been released, was found to be dead on arrival at hospital. The driver of the vehicle is in the intensive care unit of Palmerston North Hospital. Two other passengers in the car suffered minor injuries.
