Busy week-end for Oliver and Shaw
Manawatu’s two players in the North team for the interisland rugby match at Carisbrook tomorrow. . Frank Oliver and Mark Shaw, are both expected to be. .back home in time for Manawatu’s game against Queensland, at the Palmerston North Show Grounds on Sunday. . If the transport arrangements work as planned the. pair will fly to Wellington early Sunday morning and then travel by car to Palmerston North. Some questions have been asked about how four members of the team; the All Blacks. Doug . . Rollerson. Mark Donaldson. Geoff Old and Gary Knight, are able to play for Manawatu on Sunday when they are unavailable for the South Island on Saturday. All four have withdrawn from the island fifteen for the reason that they cannot
afford to spend the necessary four days away from their jobs. In each case the difficulties are apparent. In any event, it is doubtful if their decisions breach the N.Z.R.F.U.'s order of precedence rule. Under this rule players must put island representation ahead of provincial loyalties. However, the fact that the games .in question are on different days — and that two players are intending to play in both — would suggest that there is no conflict. The Manawatu team is: Alan Innes. Ken Granger. Lachie Cameron. Jimmy Bryson; Alex Tatana; Doug Rollerson. Mark Donaldson (captain); Geoff Old; Mark Shaw. Frank Oliver, Murray Rosenbrook. Stu Fleming; Gary Knight. Bruce Hemara. Ken Maharcv. Reserves: Neil Sorenson. Rangi Attenborough. Jim Carroll; Dennis Clare. Terry Clare. Braedan Whilelock. John McDermott
