Crisp basketball display
A crisp basketball display by the touring American men's basketball side, Azusa Pacific, in Christchurch last evening, saw the side easily defeat the Canterbury representative side, 81-62. The Canterbury side lost control of the match after eight minutes and no adjustment to his team’s strategy by the Canterbury coach, Murray Mackay, could get the team back in the game.
For Azusa Mike Leatherby kept one of Canterbury’s strong-
est national players, John Hill, under wraps. For Canterbury Mike Seaward picked up valuable points with his fighting for the loose ball around the basket.
Azusa players impressed with their crisp, accurate passing and general control of the game. The half-time score was 43-30 to the Azusa side.
For the Azusa side the leading scorers were: Steve Barnes 16, Gordon Billingsley 14, James Hudson 11. For Canterbury: Matt Ruscoe 14, Mike Seaward 13. John Rademakers 12.
