PA ■ Wellingtonl Mr david Hamilton, of Auckland, has won the Wellington Youth Orchestra, Commercial Union Assurance Young Composers’ Contest for 1981 with his 10minute composition “Atlas Eliptica.” Mr Hamilton, who also won. the prize in 1978, was selected ahead of Mr Christopher Brown, of Wellington, the Mozart fellow' at Otago University last year. The 1981 Mozart fellow’. Mr John Elrnsly. won special mention for his "Sinfonietta,”

along with Mr Anthony Richie, of Christchurch, for his “Shakespeare Overture.” Mr Hamilton's composition,- which at one point requires players to whisper phrases from the Bible in Latin and, in the third movement, has the wind players form a semi-circle around the audience before playing, will be performed by the orchestra at its concert on October 3 in Wellington before the Governor-General (Sir David Beattie). F Mr William Southgate, who chaired the judging panel, :will conduct the orchestra.
