Wright stars again
NZPA Correspondent London The in-form New Zealand opener, John Wright, saved his side twice on Sunday. As Derbyshire struggled to a John Player cricket league win over Warwickshire, Wright hit up 62 to top score for his county. However, the hero became what one critic yesterday called “the villain of the piece” when he claimed a controversial catch to
dismiss Warwickshire cap-' tain, Dennis Amiss, on 80. ’
To chants of “cheat” from' the partisan crowd, the New j Zealander insisted he had not stepped on the boundary j ropes while reaching high above his head for what Michael Austin in the “Daily Telegraph” newspaper called “a magnificent catch.” Amiss was only persuaded to leave the crease after the intervention of the umpires.
