‘Drought’ ends
NZPA-Reuter London Tony Jacklin ended eight lean years with a thrilling one-shot victory in the Billy Butlin Jersey Open golf tournament on his local course at La Moye at the week-end. The 36-year-old former British and United States Open champion heeded his own advice during a last round 68 which gave him a
seven-under-par 279, one stroke ahead of the German, Bernard Langer (69). Spain’s Manuel Calero was third a further shot behind. ( The New Zealanders, Simon Owen and Bob Charles, finished on 289 and 292 respectively.
Jacklin, the one-time Golden Boy of British golf, collected the £7,500 (?NZ17,175) first prize with his first win since 1973.. 0
