Baby strangled by elastic cord

PA Wellington A baby boy was-strangled by the elastic securing his favourite toy music box to his cot. the Coroner's Court heard in Wellington. Samuel James Cowley, aged one, was found dead in his cot on the morning of November 24 with a strip of elastic round his throat. His mother. Mrs Linda Cowley, said the doubled one metre' long strip had attached the toy to a cot bar for about two months. It was one of the child’s favourite

toys and he had played with it a lot. The elastic was attached after the music box was bought and there had never been any trouble with it. She had put the child to bed at 8 p.m. on November 23 but did not look in on him before going to bed, as she often did. The next morning she found him dead. The Coroner (Mr A. D. McGregor) said the death of a healthy, well-cared for little boy was tragic.
