Passports

Sir.—Regarding passports for New Zealanders to visit Australia, two things bother me. (1) If an emergency arises

pertaining to our children living in Australia, do we have to go through the procedure of obtaining a passport to “fly” to them? (2) Having obtained a passport (at the cost of $2O) for how long is that passport valid?—Yours, etc.,

(Mrs) ETHEL SOTHERAN. May 26, 1981.

[Mr L. W. Skerten, District Officer, Department of Internal Affairs, Christchurch, replies: “The Australian Government has advised that all people entering Australia as from July 1, 1981, will be required to produce passports on arrival. Assuming Mrs Solheran qualifies for a New Zealand passport it would be issued for a period of 10 years.”]
