Golden Gloves boxing

Several New Zealand representatives and titleholders are included among the 100 boxers who will compete in the seventh South Island Golden Gloves championships at the Richmond Workingmen’s Club today and tomorrow. The record number of entries has caused officials to have earlier-than-usual starts to the preliminary rounds this afternoon and evening, and the finals tomorrow afternoon.

Kevin Pyne, who will be competing "at his home club, will head the strong con- . trigent of Canterbury boxers. Pyne won a silver medal as a light middleweight at the New Zealand Games earlier this year. Tony Atwood (Temuka), another seasoned New Zealand campaigner, the promicing Darryl Kerr (Otago) and the very popular Ken Clearwater (Papanui) are others who add lustre to a most attractive programme.
