Tourism income up
PA Wellington Travel receipts for last March increased 54.9 per cent on those for March last year, according to the Minister of Tourism (Mr Quigley). For the 12 months ending March 31, the Reserve Bank figures showed travel earnings of $239.1 million. This was an increase of 21.2 per cent over the previous. 12 months, he said. “It is clear that tourism receipts have returned to a period of real growth,” Mr. Quigley said. “It is no longer accurate to assert, as pessimists are doing, that travel income is merely keeping pace with inflation.”
