Puzzle of a spider

PA Dunedin Entomologists are puzzled by the appearance of an Australian redback spider on the shores of Lake Te Anau. The spider was found about a month ago but has just been positively identified by experts at the Otago Museum. They cannot, however, explain how the spider got there. All ships arriving in

New Zealand, even in Fiordland, are checked by officials of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Wildlife officer who found the specimen, Mr D. Wakelin, is now on the lookout for more. The Te Anau redback was the second of its type to arrive in the South "island this year. Another arrived in February from a ship at Port Chalmers.
