Shipping news Orders up for Danish ship
The Danish Burmeister and Wain shipyard has announced that it has received a $l7O million order for four 64,000tonne (deadweight) bulk carriers from x the Wheelock Warden shipping group of Hong Kong. This brings to seven the number of bulk carrier orders placed by the Hong Kong firm with the Danish shipbuilder in the last 15 months. The new order is believed to be the single biggest order ever received by any Danish shipyard, and means that the yard will be fully booked until the summer of 1984. On the other side of the world, the Japanese are also going in for big bulk carriers, primarily for ore and coal. The Japanese Government has announced that it will provide loans on 31 ships, totalling 1.83 million gross registered tons, which will be built in Japanese yards in that country's latest shipbuilding programme. The total, although one ship less than in the previous year, is about 20,006 tons higher because big ore and coal carriers are included in the order. The latest order also includes three liquefied natural gas carriers, the first to be constructed for Japanese shipowners, who have indicated that they plan to gradually shift away from oilfired ships and, instead, use coal and, possibly, nuclear power.
