The Kawasaki factory _ is breaking into, the lucrative three-wheeL market. Throughout New Zealand and many other countries, farmers are switching from two-wheel to , three-wheel machinery. Kawasaki’s KLT 20.0 coni; petes on the off-road market with three-wheelers from the Yamaha and Honda factories. The main selling point of the KLT2OO is l the “dualmode” differential. This compensates for the different distances each of the two rear wheels have to travel when the machine is turning. A manual clutch, electric
starting and electronic ignition are other features of the KLT2OO. Two of New Zealand’s best road-racers, Mike and lain I’ero, have entered in the prestigious Yamaha 750 race to be run on Oran Park on August 2. This new event has attracted a lot of attention in both New Zealand and Australia, The prize moneys total over $20,000. The Christchurch brothers will ride a Yamaha XJSSO in the 340 cu. cm to 600 cu. cm class. The promoters say they plan to develop the Yamaha
750 race into a world-class event. Riders will cover 752 km and the race should last about seven hours. The six-time World Speedwav Champion, Ivan Mauger, heads the belting in the build-up to this year’s chqinv pionship. Bookmakers give Mauger odds of 5-1 ahead of the current champion, Michael Lee, and the runner-up, Dave Jessup, both at 6-1.
New Zealand's Graeme Crosby is firmly entrenched in third place in the World 500 cu cm road racing championship. Crosby, who last year won the World Formula One championships for the Suzuki factory, look third place in the French Grand Prix last week on his factory Suzuki 500 cu cm machine. He has accumulated 34 points so far in the scries. First is Randy Mamola (Suzuki), 3S> points and second, Kenny Roberts, 36 points. In the French Grand Prix, the battle between Crosby, Mamola and Roberts (Yamaha 500) took a new turn.
Italy’s Marco Luchinelli (Suzuki), who has only had a mediocre season in this year’s Grand Prix series, stormed through the field after Roberts was forced to slow after loosing traction at the rear wheel.
