Leaflets complaint

The police are investigating a complaint that a group of young people yesterday distributed obscene literature relating to a recent court case involving Canon Bob Lowe. A staff member of a Christchurch store laid the complaint after the group had distributed leaflets in the store.

The staff member said that the group, wearing clerical garb and cut-out masks, had come into the store chanting, "Steal, steal, steal.” He had ordered the group from the store, saying that it was private property. He had called the police and all but one of the group had left. This person had left when the staff member had approached two constables walking along the street. The literature referred to Capon Lowe’s acquittal on a shoplifting charge. .
