Airline granted increase

PA Wellington Safe Air is allowed to increase rail-air charter rates. The Blenheim-based airline sought the 20 per cent increase on behalf of the Railways Department after a 20 per cent rise in rail charges late last month. •

The charter rate increase approved by the Air Services Licensing Authority’ covers rail-air rates between Wellington and Blenheim and Wellington and Nelson. The authority's secretary, Mr J. Ashby, said yesterday the rise was effective from last Tuesday. Mount Cook Airlines has also been given approval to increase passenger fares and freight rates. Passenger fares and freight rates on its scheduled I and charter flights have been increased by an average of 10.5 per cent and ski-plane and helicopter rates have been increased by 5 per cent.
