Hold-up search may continue

A team of police may return to the Springs Junction area today to continue their search for items allegedly connected with last week’s armed hold-up of a Christchurch bank. The team had returned to Christchurch late last evening and the situation would be reviewed this morning, depending on the success of yesterday’s search, said Detective Inspector N. J. Stokes.

Items sought included a mask, shotgun, gloves, a jacket, and a sum of money, he said. The team of 17 uniformed policemen and C. 1.8. detectives were searching areas between Lewis Pass and Murchison.

A photograph of a Leyland P 76 taxi in yesterday’s issue of “The Press” had brought a good response, but the police were still interested in hearing from anyone who had seen the maroon-coloured car between Maruia Springs and Murchison last Tuesday, Mr Stokes said.

Two men have appeared in the District Court at Christchurch charged with the armed, robbery of the Bank of New Zealand's Woolston branch last Tuesday.
