Government spending
Sir,—According to the president of the National Party (Mr Chapman), “Labour’s answer to every problem is for the State to spend more money.” It seems to have escaped (?) his attention, though not, it is hoped, the voters’ — that Mr Chapman's National Government has been responsible for the greatest hike in personal taxation in this nation’s history, and the greatest boost to Government spending, the National Superannuation Scheme of 1976, which added over 25 per cent to state spending, or well over/me thousand million dollars (then).—Yours, etc., M. T. MOORE. May 11, 1981.
