Tapestries on tour
Disappointment at the cancellation of the tour of siverware from the Victoria and Albert Museum may be offset for some people by news that an exhibition of tapestries designed by the English sculptor, Henry Moore, will visit Christchurch later this year. The exhibition of siverware was to have been shown in the Robert MtDougall Art Gallery in August at the start of a New Zealand tour. The exhibition has been cancelled because of staff shortages and alterations being made at the Victoria and Albert Museum
in London. A request to reschedule the tour was turned down. However, arrangements for a tour of six tapestries designed by Henry Moore have been finalised with the Victoria and Albert Museum. The tapestries were woven by five weavers from the West Dean College in West Sussex. The tour is the result of a co-operative effort by galleries in the four main centres. The exhibition will open in Auckland on June 19, and will visit Wellington and Dunedin befoie showing in Christchurch from December 11 to January 24.
