Advice for working women
PA Wellington Advice and information for women returning to the workforce are available in a new series of pamphlets issued by the Department of Labour, the Minister of Labour (Mr Bolger) has said. The series of five pamphlets. entitled “Women in the Paid Workforce,” covers the subjects Employment, Your Responsibilities, Training. Trade Unions, and Things You Need To Know. The pamphlets are designed either to be used as a set, or singly. Mr Bolger said that it was becoming evident that women had very different work patterns from those of men. “One of the biggest differences in employment patterns between men and women is that many women
have a period of time out of the workforce, jisuallv to care for small cGldren,” he said. ? - “When they wish to return to paid employiient, thev often find that fteir skills are outdated and conditions affecting erflplovment have changed frop when they were last in tte labour' force. v “The pamphlets ire designed to meet the particular needs of this group ol potential employees. Tha pamphlets suggest pointslwhich women need to consiqir before returning to work such as child-care arrangements, work-related expensesland the need for retraining.they give information on ageties to approach for advicAon training, benefits offeredbv unions, and laws affecmg women in the workforce!
