Cup to Widnes

NZPA London A prop forward, Brian Lockwood, became only the second player in English rugby league history to pocket a fourth Challenge' Cup winners’ medal when Widnes beat Hull Kingston Rovers, 18-9, in the final at Wembley on Saturday. Lockwood won the man-of-the-match award when the Hull side took the trophy last year.

Widnes’ victory on Saturday gave it its sixth Challenge Cup, equalling Wigan’s record of victories. Its edge in skill and flair was illustrated by three superb tries. The “man of the match,” .Mick Burke, scored the first after only four minutes. The centre, Mick George, got the second just before the break and Widnes clinched its second Challenge Cup in three years when the 19-year-old scrum-half, Andy Gregory, crossed for a brilliant solo try soon after the restart.
