Charges discounted

PA Wellington The legal adviser to the Civil Aviation Division, Mr Geoff Connell, said yesterday that charges would not be laid against Air New Zealand in respect of the flight plan of the doomed DCIO. He said that it was a correct flight plan insofar as the aircraft flew along the track it had been scheduled to fly. “It is a requirement'that

the pilot lodge a flight plan, and he did,” Mr Connell said. “The legal responsibility is on the pilot to lodge the flight plan. However, we accept the flight plans lodged on his behalf.” Mr Connell said that the latter happened in the case of the aircraft which crashed into Mount Erebus. It was this flight plan under which the ill-fated airliner was programmed to fly straight over Mount Erebus.
