’Quakes recorded
Three minor earthquakes were recorded in Canterbury yesterday. ■ The Canterbury Museum seismological device recorded one earthquake at 4.30 a.m. which lasted for about three minutes, another at 9.19 a.m. (seven minutes) and the third at 11.43 a.m. (two minutes). People ‘were known to have felt ; the last one in Oxford ' and . Rangiora, a museum spokesman said. The. Seismological Observatory in Wellington had recorded nothing of any significance so it appeared that the
tremors were local, the spokesman said. The Greymouth reporter of “The Press” said that a slight earthquake was felt on the West Coast at 4.30 a.m. yesterday. The tremors were sufficient to awaken light sleepers, but no damage had been reported.
The Westport correspondent of “The Press” said that a sharp jolt was felt at 4.30 a.m., and shaking lasted for several seconds.
There were no reports of damage, but less severe tremors felt on Tuesday afternoon and earlier in the night were reported.
