Long run ends

PA Kaitaia Champagne corks popped and telegrams of congratulation were handed over when Stella Cawkwell, of Maungaturoto, and Ben Thomas, of Orewa, reached Cape Reinga at 1.5 p.m. yesterday, five minutes over, schedule and just: one month after setting out on their ’2oookm run from Bluff. The two were welcomed at New Zealand’s tiny northernmost post office by relations, friends —including a busload of 50 from Maungaturoto — well-wishers, and four busloads of tourists. Money raised from their long run will benefit the disabled. They have no idea how much has been collected.
