Sachets of heroin found on bodies?
PA Auckland Several sachets of what is believed to be heroin have been found during the postmortem examination of a Napier couple killed in a road accident near Taupo. They were Sally Mary Glenday, aged 33; and Mark Anthony McKinney, aged 20, both of Napier, who were killed instantly in the head-on collision. The police are trying to trace the couple’s movements before the accident. The sachets, which had been concealed on the couple’s bodies, have been sent to the D.S.I.R. in Auckland for scientific analysis. The Auckland police are trying to establish the source of the substance, almost certainly heroin. More than 16 sachets were removed from Miss Glenday’s body and others from the body of her companion. The total quantity of the substance in the sachets has not been established, but it is believed to be a “reasonable consignment.” It is thought to have been bought recently in Auckland, where small quantities of heroin have been selling in the last few days for about $l6O a gram. Heroin has been extremely scarce in New Zealand since early last year and only minute quantities of poor-quality heroin have been seized by the authorities in the last 15 months..
