Rubbish conspiracy case
PA Auckland A weighbridge clerk in the Auckland Regional Authority has been committed to the High Court for trial on a charge of conspiring with others to defraud the authority of refuse disposal fees. He is Neil McKay, aged 43, of Waitakere, who pleaded not guilty to the charge at the end of a depositions hearing in the District Court at Auckland. He was allowed bail by Mr J. Delowe and Mr R. Henshall, Justices of the Peace. In a separate hearing another Regional Authority clerk pleaded guilty to conspiring with three others to defraud the authority of refuse disposal fees when he appeared in the District Court. He is lan Harold Allison, aged 46, of St Heliers, who was remanded on bail to April 9 for a report and sentence by Judge Mason. Sergeant T. Horne said that part of the defendant’s duties involved the weighing of rubbish on trucks using the authority tips. The weight was recorded for later payment of fees to the AR.A. ' - Over a period of time weights recorded for the firm of Bad Bins, Ltd, were for a lesser amount than actually dumped. The defendant, said Kir Horne, had entered into an. agreement with the principals of the firm and with another weighbridge clerk to do this. He received $5 for each tonne understated. It had been assessed that 1650 tonnes had not been paid format a cost of $20,000 to the AHA. The defendant, said Mr Horne, received $l5OO from the firm for falsifying the weight figures. _____
