Fresh trespass charges
PA Auckland More charges have been laid against 47 of the men who have already been charged with trespassing on the tarmac in front of the domestic terminal at Auckland Airport bn February 24. Thirty-four of the men were to appear at a hearing at the District Court at Otahuhu yesterday, but the Crown prosecutor, Mr David Morrison, was ill, and Mr Stuart Grieve, who stood in for him, asked for an adjournment
because of the complicated nature of matters before the Court and the short notice he had been given to take over. The new charges are of y. trespass under the Trespass Act, and all the men who appeared pleaded not juilty. Judge Richardson adjourned the hearing until \pril 13 for most defendants, and bail for all was continued. Other defendants who were due to appear on April 6 for the first
charges to be beard have been remanded by consent to April 13 for a hearing on both charges. A plea of not guilty was entered on their behalf by counsel.
James Arthur Butterworth, aged 49, a union secretary of Greenlane, John Findlay, aged 55, a union official of Mount Eden, and Arthur Paul Tackwood, aged 42, a union official of Tokoroa, pleaded not guilty to the new charge, and were remanded to appear on Friday on both charges.
