Leasing cars
Sir,—Could someone please explain how it Is possible to save paying thousands of dollars in tax by leasing a car £ instead of buying, as stated in
an advertisement in your paper of March 23 — not any old car but ones costing $lB,OOO to' $26,000? It appears that this is another way for the rich to avoid paying taxes. Could the poor also lease less expensive cars and so save themselves some tax — perhaps not thousands but maybe a hundred dollars.—Yours, etc., A, M. GALLAGHER. March 23, 1981.
[Mr S. Christenson, managing director, Manchester Fiat, replies: “There is insufficient space in this column to explain car leasing, but for your correspondent’s information, it is possible for anyone to lease a car up to five years old regardless of price. However, full information on leasing (legislation) is available from the Christchurch • Government Printing Office.”]
