Chathams runway progressing

Work is reported to be progressing well on the reconstruction of a wharf and the sealing of an airport runway at the Chatham Islands.

The Ministry of Works and Development’s District civil engineer in Christchurch (Mr M. R: Lancaster) inspected both projects on the island this week. He 'said that although sealing of the airstrip at Karewa Foint had been delayed because sealing chips could not be produced fast enough on the island, the job should be completed in the next few weeks.

Rebuilding of the main structure of the T-head at the Waitangi wharf... was complete, and the construction of a lower platform for fishing boats should be,, finished soon, sje "said.
