New cricket venue in Antigua
NZPA St John’s, Antigua The only main cricket ground on the Caribbean island of Antigua will become the newest venue for international test cricket today, when it plays host, to the fourth test match between England aind the West Indies.
Officials say that the recreation ground, almost in the heart of the quaint capital town of St John’s, will be bursting to capacity on each of the five days of the match, mainly to cheer on the two Antiguan stars in the West Indies team, Viv Richards and Andy Roberts. ■ . It is the first test ever scheduled by the West Indies Cricket Board of Control in one of the small Windward and Leeward Islands. Hundreds of spectators are expected in from nearby islands, including dozens of cricket-mad British West In-
dians from the United States Virgin Islands. The West Indies team has established a clear superiority over a weak England team so far in the five match series, the second match of which was. cancelled when Guyana refused permission for .the England fast bowler 1 , Robin Jackman to play because he had played and coached in South Africa.
The West Indies won the first test by an innings and 79 runs, and the second by 298 runs.
England has delayed naming its■ team - for the match until just before play starts, but is expected to bring in batsman . Bill Athey, a late replacement ‘ for Brian Rose, who flew back to London late last month with an eye problem.
The West Indies is expected to keep the same winning combination.
